Utah Lake
The big water. 96,000 acres of shallow, warm, fertile fishing 15 minutes from Orem.
Channel catfish, bullhead catfish, white bass, largemouth bass, walleye, northern pike, carp, bluegill.
Summer evenings for cats and white bass. Spring for walleye spawning run. Fall for pike along the reed lines.
Provo River
Blue-ribbon tailwater. Consistent flows, cold water, and 3,000+ trout per mile on the Middle Provo.
Brown trout, rainbow trout, cutthroat trout, whitefish.
Year-round. Winter midge hatches produce the biggest fish. Summer evenings for dry-fly caddis action.
Yuba Reservoir
Tiger muskie headquarters. Remote, windswept, and loaded with toothy predators.
Tiger muskie, northern pike, walleye, yellow perch, carp.
Spring and fall for muskies. Ice-off through June is peak. Summer is tough — the water gets warm.
Deer Creek Reservoir
Clear, deep, and mountain-beautiful. 45 minutes from Orem up Provo Canyon.
Smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, brown trout, walleye, yellow perch.
Spring and fall for smallmouth. Ice fishing in winter for trout and perch. Summer boating for walleye at dawn.
Strawberry Reservoir
Utah's premier trout fishery. Massive reservoir, trophy cutthroats and rainbows.
Cutthroat trout, rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, crayfish.
Ice-off through June is ice fishing. Summer for trolling and fly fishing from a tube. Fall for big cutts moving shallow.
Green River (Flaming Gorge)
Tailwater royalty. Big browns, technical dry-fly water, 3+ hours from Orem — worth every mile.
Brown trout, rainbow trout, cutthroat trout.
Year-round below the dam. Summer for hopper-dropper rigs. Winter for midges and streamers in the deep runs.
Jordanelle Reservoir
Close to Park City, loaded with smallmouth and trout. Ramp access, good shore fishing, stunning views.
Smallmouth bass, rainbow trout, brown trout, yellow perch.
Spring for prespawn smallmouth. Summer for topwater at dawn and dusk. Ice fishing for perch in winter.
Willard Bay
Utah's 'mini ocean.' A freshwater reservoir with walleye, wipers, and crappie. 90 minutes north of Orem.
Wiper (hybrid striped bass), walleye, channel catfish, crappie, smallmouth bass.
Spring for walleye spawn. Summer for wipers boiling on shad at the surface. Fall for crappie around structure.
